Supporting Our Neighbours from Fort McMurray

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I know you are acutely aware that the crisis in Fort McMurray has reached epic proportions and requires us to respond in prayer, support, and with open arms.

We have started to receive families in our communities and when they arrive, we need to open up our doors of mercy and accept without question those in need of our care. We know that many of these families are not from Alberta and have no families to turn to at this time.

Together with our entire faith learning community, St. Martin's is here to help in any way possible.  If any St. Martin's parents are helping with families from Fort McMurray with children needing to attend school, please share with them that arrangements can be made to have their children attend St. Martin's.  There is also assistance for families or individuals still needing accommodation within our Division boundaries.

In order to help during this very challenging time of displacement, Elk Island Catholic Schools will be waiving all school fees and necessary documentation to ensure children can attend school. Simply call the EICS board office or go directly to St. Martin's or the nearest school that may be in your transition area and we will work with you and your family throughout  the process.

Please call St. martin's school at 780-632-2266 or call EICS Central Office at 780 449-7487 or Toll Free: 1-800-996-9982 or email our communications office at susan.johnson@eics.ab.ca.

Any families wishing to help financially, Archbishop Richard Smith has asked all parishes to conduct a special collection at each Sunday Mass. Families may also drop off cash donations at St. Martin's Parish office.
Please continue to pray for rain to quench the fire and for solace for the families now orphaned from their community who many have lost much.

"When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required." Luke 12:49

Where is Jesus? Right here right now In your actions to offer care and support to our neighbours from Fort McMurray.

Yours in Christ,

St. Martin's Catholic School
